Visited by writers like Charles Dickens and more recently Seamus Heaney, the park is thought to have been an inspiration for Narnia in the writings of C. S. Lewis. The park was also owned by the Bowes-Lyon (Queen Mother's) family and Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Margaret holidayed there as children.
